TWO men, believed to be in their 20s, died when the car they were travelling in allegedly collided with a tree in the centre medium on the M4 Durban bound near Walter Gilbert Road on Saturday.
According to a statement by ALS Paramedics, they found that a single vehicle with five occupants had somehow lost control and collided with a tree.
"Paramedics assessed the scene and found that the driver and front seat passenger were severely entrapped in the wreckage. The two men, believed to be in their twenties, had sustained major injuries and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for them and they were declared deceased on the scene."
They said three other occupants, also believed to be in their 20s, sustained serious to critical injuries and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise them.
One of the three sustained critical injuries and was placed on a ventilator before they were taken to nearby hospitals.
"The Ethekweni Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the entrapped patients free. At this stage the events leading up to the crash is unknown. However, SAPS and metro police were in attendance and will be investigating further."
