Cocaine valued at R13 million was found hidden in a bus at Durban Harbour during a targeted police operation

KwaZulu-Natal police have recovered cocaine worth R13 million at Durban Harbour on Tuesday and are currently searching for the suspects involved.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, said the recovery was made during an intelligence-driven operation.

"Following the recovery of drugs in Gauteng province in April this year, information indicated that the drugs entered the country through the Durban Harbour.

"Intelligence was activated, and certain vessels were profiled. During an operation which involved officers from Durban Operational Response Services and Serious Organised Crime Investigation  unit, 32 blocks of suspected cocaine were recovered concealed in the air conditioning compartment of a bus.

He said the busses were shipped from a South American country and were destined for Gauteng Province.

"Investigations are underway to uncover the suspects behind the shipment and the intended recipients."
