A Durban flight attendant, collaborating with a development team, created a ride-hailing app, called SheGo, designed to prioritise safety, comfort and empowerment for women.
Firdaus Ally, 26, said the app connected women passengers with female drivers.
“It aims to create a trusted environment where women feel secure during their journeys. In addition to safe transportation, SheGo also creates economic opportunities by allowing women to earn an income on their own terms.
"The platform is designed to be user-friendly, reliable, and tailored to the specific needs and concerns of women in South Africa,” she said.
Ally said the idea for the app was inspired by the growing safety concerns women faced when using transportation services.
“I wanted to create a solution that not only addressed these concerns but also empowered women economically.”
Ally said the development process took several months.
“The app was built in collaboration with a professional development team to ensure a smooth, secure, and user-friendly experience. It involved a lot of planning, refining, and overcoming challenges, particularly ensuring the app meets safety and usability standards.”
She added that the name of app represented “freedom, independence, and empowerment” for women.
“'She' places women at the center of the experience, while 'Go' symbolises movement, opportunity, and the ability to navigate the world safely and confidently. Together, SheGo reflects a space where women can move freely without fear.”
The app is officially available for download on both iOS and Android. You can download it directly from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store by searching “SheGo”.
Ally said once downloaded, you simply create an account and log in.
“From there, you can enter your pickup and drop-off location, request a ride, and get matched with a verified female driver. The app allows you to track your ride in real time, ensuring safety and transparency from start to finish.”
Ally said SheGo was currently onboarding female drivers as part of its growth phase.
“The number is steadily increasing as more women join the platform, and we are focused on building a strong, trusted network of drivers. While the platform initially launched in KwaZulu-Natal, it has expanded its reach and continues to grow its presence in major cities and surrounding areas across the country.”
She hopes to expand SheGo and make it a trusted, globally recognised platform for women.
