THE funeral of Captain Louis Nel is being held by members of the South African Police Service at the Durban Christian Centre Jesus Dome on Friday.
Captain Nel died in a hail of bullets when he and his colleague were ambushed in the line of duty at Mount Edgecombe on April 30.
Nel was a member of the Special Task Force.

His colleague, Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo, is in a critical state in hospital.
KZN Premier, Thamsanqa Ntuli, attended the funeral to pay his last respects to Nel's family, friends and colleagues.
Ntuli, an executive authority for the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, delivered the eulogy on behalf of the SAPS.
He said the loss of a police officer was not just a loss to the family, but a loss to the whole nation who depended on the supreme skills of determined officers of Captain Nel’s calibre.

“Having worn the badge myself and having gone through the rigorous training that makes you an elite member of the South African Police Service, I understand the anger that all Special Task Force members are feeling right now. What I can assure the family and friends of Captain Nel is that we will find his killers and, pretty soon, dead or alive,” said Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.
