Man stabbed to death and body dumped in Phoenix park on Mother's Day

THE body of an unidentified  man, who was found with multiple stab wounds and his legs bound with shoelaces, was discovered at the Gandhi Park, in Phoenix, on Mother’s Day.

Prem Balram, head of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), said a passerby discovered the man’s body in the parking lot of the park on Sunday morning.

“Officers were dispatched to the park just after 7am when a passer-by discovered the man lying in the parking lot.

“Blood was visible from certain parts of his body. His legs were bound together with a shoelace and he was confirmed deceased on scene,” Balram added.

Val Pillay, spokesperson for the Phoenix Community Policing Forum (CPF) said they urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has information, to come forward.

“We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the horrific discovery of a body found at Gandhi Park. Incidents of this nature are shocking and have a serious impact on the sense of safety and wellbeing within our communities.

“We strongly condemn all acts of violence and criminality. We commend the swift response by Rusa and acknowledge the efforts of all emergency personnel and investigators attending to the scene.

“We urge members of the public who may have any information related to this incident to cooperate with authorities and assist in ensuring justice is served,” she added.

Pillay said the CPF had full confidence in law enforcement agencies and believe that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended, and brought to book.
