Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital recently unveiled its cardiac wing, marking a historic milestone as the first comprehensive cardiac facility for the community it serves.

This modern unit brings dedicated cardiac care closer to home for communities across the North Coast, eliminating the need for patients and families to travel long distances for specialised treatment.

The opening event was attended by approximately 120 general practitioners, specialists, and the executive team from Life Healthcare, reflecting the significance of this major healthcare investment.

Advanced facilities under one roof:

The new cardiac wing has been purpose-built to provide exceptional specialist care and includes:

  • Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) – dedicated critical care for cardiac patients
  • Cardiac Theatre – advanced surgical capability for life-saving heart procedures
  • Catheterisation Laboratory – cutting-edge diagnostics and minimally invasive cardiac interventions

Serving the heart of the community

This new facility will support and serve communities across:

  • Umhlanga
  • Ballito
  • Tongaat
  • Verulam
  • KwaDukuza / Stanger
  • Salt Rock
  • Umdloti
  • Surrounding North Coast areas

Bringing peace of mind closer to home

The opening of this specialised wing means faster access to urgent cardiac care, skilled intervention when every second counts, and improved healthcare outcomes for residents across the region.

Expanded Emergency Unit

As part of this expansion, patients will also benefit from an enhanced Emergency Unit, delivering faster access to urgent medical attention, improved patient flow, and critical care when every second counts.
