The search for missing Phoenix truck driver Poovin Narainsamy continues after his truck was swept away by floodwaters in the R46 Wolseley area near Cape Town last week.
Despite numerous social media claims suggesting the 40-year-old had been found, his family confirmed that search and rescue teams are still combing the area hoping to locate him.
Narainsamy was transporting a load of sugar to Cape Town when severe weather conditions struck the region last Tuesday.
According to his family, he was travelling on the N1 when his wife, Roma Narainsamy, became concerned after she could not contact him.
His Scania R580 truck was later discovered downstream near the R46 outside Wolseley, completely wrecked by the powerful floodwaters.
Authorities said the vehicle's condition highlighted the sheer force of the flooding that swept the truck away.
Speaking from their home in Ormford, Phoenix, Roma Narainsamy said the family was struggling to cope with the uncertainty surrounding her husband’s disappearance.
“The search and rescue teams are still looking for my husband. We are trying to hang in there and be strong but it is difficult not knowing where he is and what is going on,” she said.
“Right now I am in a situation where I am looking for closure. I just need them to find his body so we can give him the funeral he deserves. It is very sad.”

Narainsamy said the emotional toll on the family had been overwhelming, especially for their children.
“It was my son's ninth birthday on Sunday and he really missed his dad. We felt the void of not having my husband there. All our family and friends came to visit us to help us get through the day,” she said.
“I keep waiting for the call that never comes. I hope he is found soon. So many days have already passed.”
Family members have appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information online, saying false reports have added to their distress as they continue to wait for answers.
