POLICE have confirmed that the body of missing truck driver, 40-year-old Poovin Narainsamy, has been found.
Narainsamy disappeared on May 11 when his truck was swept away during severe flooding on the R46, near Wolseley.
Authorities said that on Saturday, a body was discovered on the riverbank of a farm in Wolseley.
Forensic pathology tests later confirmed that the body was that of the missing driver.
Speaking to the POST on Thursday, Roma Narainsamy said was not only devastated by the confirmation of her husband’s death, but also by the way their family received the news.
“I did not even know that they had found a body on Saturday and that the authorities suspected it was my husband. The police did not contact me nor did any Cape Town authorities,” she said.
“I only found out because my husband’s friend came to know and told me that the body they found would undergo DNA testing to know whether it was Poovin or not.”
Poovin Narainsamy's Scania R580 truck was later discovered completely wrecked downstream near the R46 outside Wolseley.

She said she eventually learned of the confirmation through her husband’s friend rather than directly from police.
“On Sunday evening Poovin’s friend came to see me and said the police confirmed that the body they had found was that of my husband. I was really upset to get the news from his friend rather than the police.
“It is very devastating, I cannot even put it into words right now. When I sent him to work that day I expected him to come home safely and not like this … in a body bag.”
The grieving widow said she was trying to remain strong for their sons while navigating the painful loss.
“I am trying to stay strong for my sons but it is not easy grieving for my husband,” she said.
The family is still waiting for Narainsamy’s body to be transported from Cape Town before funeral arrangements could be finalised.
“We are still waiting for the body to be brought down from Cape Town and we do not even know when the funeral will take place,” she added.
She also expressed frustration with the police, claiming she was often informed of developments long after they had occurred.
“I am upset with the police because throughout this entire ordeal I was always given updates last. They would only tell me hings after it happened, sometimes days later,” she said.
“This situation is just sad but since I want my husband to have a good send-off, I will let it be no matter how difficult it is.”
