Second Durban tragedy this week: Mother and son found dead in shooting incident

A mother and son died in a shooting incident on Sarnia Road in the Hillary area on Wednesday night.

Paramedics said the 60-year-old woman and her 30-year-old son were declared deceased on the scene.

They had sustained gunshot wounds to their head. 

ALS paramedics said they responded to numerous calls of a shooting incident just before 8 pm on Sarnia Road.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said on arrival, paramedics found SAPS already in attendance and were shown into a house.

"Paramedics found two people believed to be a mother in her sixties and a male believed to be her son in his thirties who had sustained gunshot wounds to their heads.

"Paramedics assessed both of them; however, they showed no signs of life, and both were declared deceased on the scene."

He said that at this stage, the circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown; however, SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.

This is the second tragedy to have unfolded in the Durban area this week.

On Monday night an 83-year-old woman was killed while her 60-year-old daughter's had her throat slit in their Phoenix home. 

The woman's husband came home and found his wife and mother-in-law lying in a pool of blood.

His wife is currently fighting for her life in the hospital.

A close family member had been arrested.
