Police raid heavily guarded property in Westham, Phoenix, seize drugs

Drugs with an estimated street value of more than R200 000 were recovered by police during an operation at a guarded property on Gillham Avenue, Westham, where two suspects were arrested.

Police have arrested two men after they were found in possession of drugs worth over R200,000. 

The suspects, aged 30 and 34, were arrested in Phoenix on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in a joint operation by the Pinetown Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Ethekwini District Crime Intelligence. 

According to KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the operation was carried out following the execution of a search warrant at a property on Gillham Avenue, Westham.

Police said the property was surrounded by ten heavily armed security guards. 

Upon entering the premises, police found the two men and conducted a thorough search.

“During the search, police recovered 1,563 mandrax tablets, 4,070 heroin capsules, and a money counting machine,” Ngcobo said. She said the street value of the drugs was over R200,000. 

The suspects were arrested and charged with being in possession of substances suspected to be heroin and Mandrax.

“The operation yielded positive results'' she said. 

Ngcobo added that the suspects were taken to Phoenix SAPS for further processing and are expected to appear before the Phoenix Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 24 December 2025.
