A Bellair man, following a brief argument with his 70-year-old mother, tragically took her life before ending his own last night.

The incident has left the family and community in shock.

The man, in his 50s, allegedly shot his mom in the right side of her head at close range, and then shot himself in his head at around 7.30pm.

Claude Subramodey, the spokesperson for Amawele Emergency Services, said the man’s father, also in his 70s, heard two gunshot inside their Sarnia Road house, and found his wife’s lifeless body in the dining room of their home.

“When we arrived, the father of the man was hysterical and in shock. Inside the house, the woman was found lying in the dining room. Her son was found with a gunshot wound that entered under his chin and exited through his head. He was found in the bedroom of the home.

“The father said that his wife and son had an argument earlier. He said he was outside the house, moving the cars, when he heard two gunshots."

“We treated the man for shock,” Subramodey said.

This is a developing story.

In Phoenix on Monday, a relative stabbed his blind grandmother to death and slit her daughter’s throat in an attack at their Westham home. The woman is fighting for her life in hospital.

The relative was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) and is expected to appear in court tomorrow on murder and attempted murder charges.
