Father and daughter die in N3 accident while en route to funeral in Phoenix

TRIBUTES have poured in on social media after a father and his daughter died in an accident, while they were travelling along the N3 from Johannesburg to Phoenix to arrange his dad's funeral.
Kevin Govender and his daughter Emily were killed, while his wife and younger daughter remain critical in hospital from the injuries they sustained during the accident.
A joint funeral will be held today for Govender and Emily and his dad, Mannie Govender, at the Faith Revival Church in Longcroft.
Tributes for the family have poured in on social media.
On Facebook, Irene Ramlakan, wrote: “This is so tragic. Praying for the family during this difficult time. May their dear souls RIP. The mum and daughter are in my prayers for a speedy recovery.”
Rhoda Moodley: “Condolences to the entire Govender family. May they find strength in the love and support surrounding them.”
Sunnil Bodh: “I cannot even imagine what the remaining family must be going through. So so sad. I pray that the Almighty gives them the strength to overcome their losses. Heartfelt condolences to the family.”
Shamitha Ramsunder: “This is so sad and heartbreaking. Lord, please grant this family peace and comfort. This happened to me in 2018, losing my son and hubby tragically in an accident. My heart right now is torn.”
In a separate incident, two women died in an accident in Tongaat on Thursday.
Prem Balram, the head of Reaction Unit South Africa, said they were called out to the upper Tongaat area.
He said the driver of a truck transporting sugar cane informed reaction officers that a silver Toyota Corolla and a silver Hyundai i10 were travelling in the same direction on the R614.
The Toyota Corolla allegedly collided into the vehicle in front of it and forced it into the path of the truck.
“The Hyundai i10 was crushed by the truck. The Toyota Corolla overturned about 150 meters away. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced deceased on scene,” said Balram.
