A 22-YEAR-OLD man allegedly linked to the Southside Gang has been granted bail after police discovered a cocaine lab in his Phoenix flat, resulting in the seizure of drugs worth over R3 million.

Brene Braydon Chetty, from Greenbury, appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court yesterday and was granted R5 000 bail.

He was arrested two weeks ago, when members of the Hawks and various police units searched his home and found R3 683 000 worth of drugs, which included cocaine, ecstasy tablets, painkillers and ammunition.

Last Thursday, Narelle Maikoo, 34, also an alleged member of the Southside Gang, was granted R5 000 bail. She was nabbed by police on the same day as Chetty.

Police allegedly caught her with a brick of cocaine worth R350 000 in her bedroom and heroin powder in the kitchen of her home in Greenbury.

The Southside Gang has allegedly been operating under the radar of police for over a decade, and sources close to the investigation claim that the gang has evaded the law due to police corruption.

Police sources said the drugs that Chetty and Maikoo were found in possession of were being packaged to be sold in the community and in Umhlanga and Ballito and Hillcrest.

The accused are due back in court in October.
