A pensioner who played the Lotto with numbers based on a combination of his loved ones birthdays has won just over R13 million in the Lotto Plus 2 Draw today.

The father and husband, from Cape Town, purchased his manually selected R70 wager at a retailer in Bergvliet.

"I usually play my numbers based on a combination of my loved ones' birthdates, at least twice a week, and now I'm a multi-millionaire. My favourite game is Lotto. I often win small amounts, but I've never won such a significant amount. It is truly life-changing.

“I am excited to buy a car to make getting around easier. As a pensioner, I plan to be responsible with my winnings, investing them wisely to secure our retirement. I also want to spoil my wife with a bit of shopping,” he said.

ITHUBA National Lottery CEO, Charmaine Mabuza, congratulated the winner.

She said: “We are delighted to celebrate another South African becoming a National Lottery multi-millionaire. We congratulate the winner and all players who won prizes in this draw, and encourage everyone to keep playing and checking their tickets; you could be the next big winner."

“In addition to the jackpot winner, there are several winners in the lower prize divisions of this draw. We encourage other participants to check their tickets too. While you may not be the jackpot winner, you could still be walking away with a significant prize,” added Mabuza.

To help the winner cope with the sudden financial change, ITHUBA provided trauma counselling and professional financial advice to empower him to make smart financial decisions and manage his newfound wealth effectively.
