Berlin - Thieves have stolen 40 rolls of toilet paper from a

locked room next to a public toilet at the Kapfenburg Castle in

south-western Germany.

They also took paper towels and soap, police said on Saturday in the

town of Lauchheim, about 90 kilometres east of Stuttgart.

Whoever stole the loo rolls is believed to have gained access to the

shuttered premises sometime between Tuesday and Friday. No damage was

done to the building.

The castle, which dates back to the 12th century, has housed a music

academy and cultural centre since 1999. It is now closed off to the

public due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Panic-buying has left supermarket shelves across Germany emptied out

of toilet paper, paper towels, soap and disinfectants.
