Floyd Shivambu who broke ranks with his former political home, and launched a new party, the Afrika Mayibuye Movement (AMM), has lashed out at the African National Congress (ANC) for its failure to deliver change.

Unveiling the AMM's manifesto, Shivambu accused the ANC of betraying South Africans.

"The ANC has dismally failed to deliver the promise of a better life for all. There are currently no liberation alternatives to the ANC's decline. Many attempts to reform the ANC from within have failed, and the other parties in existence are not a solution to the people of South Africa," Shivambu said.

The manifesto claimed that the country's main opposition forces are equally unfit to govern. It argued that the existing political formations lack the ideals of true emancipation and freedom.

"It will be a huge tragedy if South Africa permits corrupt and cultish politics to rise to any form of meaningful State power. This is a sound and well-informed warning to the current and future generations." it reads.

Positioning itself as a new vehicle for liberation politics, the AMM pledged to rally citizens towards what it claims is genuine change.

"AMM exists as a true voice of the people of South Africa. It exists not as a cult, nor ill-disciplined and corrupt sect, but a collective that will champion the interests and aspirations of the people of South Africa."

Historian Pitika Ntuli predicted that Shivambu is using the Mayibuye iAfrika slogan to call out the ANC's failures.

"He is reclaiming this liberation cry. By invoking this historic slogan, Shivambu challenges the ANC on its unfulfilled promises and signals continuity with the anti-colonial dream. He also calls for a new ownership of Africa by Africans," Ntuli said.
