Eleven-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek allegedly died after being hit with an "unknown" hard object to the head. This is according to the State charge sheet.

His mother, 31-year-old Tiffany Meek, has been charged with one count of murder, defeating the ends of justice, crimen injuria, and attempting to defeat the end of justice, after making her first court appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Jayden-Lee was reported missing by his mother shortly after returning home from school, with reports suggesting that he never made it home, even though neighbours and community members saw him enter his complex.

According to the detailed charge sheet, the blow to Jayden-Lee’s head resulted in severe blunt force trauma, ultimately leading to his death.

In May, Jayden-Lee's mysterious murder sent shockwaves when residents of Fleurhof and surrounding areas marched to the Florida police station to demand justice for the Grade 6 learner.

The Grade 6 learner, who was reported missing in May 2025 by his mother and was later found unconscious on the staircase of his Fleurhof apartment, was declared dead at the hospital.

"In that upon or about the 13th of May 2025 at or near Fleurhof in the regional Division of Gauteng, the accused person did unlawfully and intentionally kill Jayden-Lee Meek by hitting or striking him with an unknown object, as a result, the deceased died of blunt force head injury...

"The accused wrongfully and intentionally reported the now-deceased child as missing in not having returned home from school and where the accused, when she acted as aforesaid, well knew and intended that her actions would have the following results or consequences: she, would not be suspected and her premise would not be searched and whereas, as a result, of the actions of the accused did obstruct the administration of justice," the charge sheet states.

Members of the community, including City of Joburg Speaker, Margaret Arnolds, showed their support to Jayden-Lee Meek, who allegedly died at the hands of his 31-year-old mother.

Meek was remanded in custody, and the matter was postponed to Friday for bail information.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, said: "The 31-year-old accused appeared today on charges of murder, obstruction in the administration of justice, and another charge of crime injuria and attempts to obstruct and defeat the ends of justice. We are positive that there are prospects of a successful prosecution, which is why we have enrolled the matter," she said.
