eThekwini Municipality said they were probing two workers caught on camera engaging in inappropriate conduct while members of the public waited in a service queue.

The video was being shared on social media, the City said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

The Municipality said it viewed this matter seriously as it compromises customer service standards, workplace professionalism, and the dignity of residents accessing municipal services.

“Upon becoming aware of the video, management immediately launched a formal investigation, in accordance with disciplinary and labour relations procedures,” the statement read.

The City said it had also instructed management to strengthen oversight at service centres to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Measures include reinforcing customer service protocols, ensuring active supervision, and implementing corrective steps where necessary.

“The conduct depicted does not reflect the City’s values or the standards expected of its employees,” the Municipality said.

Less than 24 hours ago, the City said it was investigating a worker who was caught sweeping dirt into a manhole.

A video circulating on social media has captured a municipal worker sweeping litter directly into a stormwater drainage system.

In the footage, the employee can be seen casually moving rubbish from a service area and depositing it into the drain, raising serious concerns about environmental responsibility and professionalism.
