Sandy Schuter-Flowers, chairperson of the Strandfontein Community Police Forum
Reporting crime through proper channels is crucial for several reasons:
Resource allocation: Accurate reporting helps SAPS allocate resources effectively and identify areas that require additional support. As chairperson of the Strandfontein CPF, I have requested a station rank upgrade for additional resources. We did not qualify for an upgrade, even though we’ve given all the motivations. For example, considering the current college development, a proposed housing development and the proposed Strandfontein Pavilion development, we just don't have the needed police resources. We call on residents to please report crime so that we can qualify for more resources.
Trauma support: Access to free trauma counselling services at the victim support room. Don't hesitate to request support. Our dedicated trauma team at Strandfontein SAPS is ready to help.
Community safety: By reporting crimes, you contribute to a safer community. Your reports help SAPS identify patterns and hotspots, enabling targeted interventions.
I'd like to thank the community safety structures in our precinct, including Bayview Block Watch, San Remo Neighbourhood Watch, Strandfontein Neighbourhood Watch, Band Square Block Watch and the safety patrollers in the Dolphin block
These volunteers have sacrificed their personal time to ensure our community's safety. I've witnessed their dedication first-hand, and it's essential that SAPS starts acknowledging and supporting their efforts.
I urge SAPS to work more closely with our community safety structures. By doing so, we can harness the power of partnership and create a safer, more secure environment for all.
As a community, we need to see more action. It’s evident from the crime stats that our substance abuse cases have increased. We want to see more action taken against those who supply our community. We need more crime intelligence driven operations within the precinct.
Remember to report crimes and request assistance using 10111, 021 480 7700 or 107/112
Always request a reference number to ensure that your report is documented and tracked.
Let's work together to create a safer, more supportive community.
I am also contactable by WhatsApp or phone at 071 947 8294 if you would like us to establish a street committee or if you would like to join the existing safety structures in the precinct.
