Tony Jones, Hout Bay
I am speechless at the out and out drivel quoted from the City Traffic Services spokesman Kevin Jacobs, which you, unbelievably, then afforded it the headline front-page news.
His comments and lame excuses are laughable.
These “boy” racers are immature and selfish individuals who, even when stationary, rev their engines on shutdown and start-up just to show how big their “manhood” is.
It has absolutely nothing to do with a vehicle’s ability to negotiate the incline from the beach up towards Suikerbossie.
95% of all traffic climbs the slope with little difficulty and normal exhaust noise output, which, of course, is perfectly acceptable and routine.
Mr Jacobs, we all know combustion engines make a noise. However, they have been designed to adhere to a restricted and governed noise limit.
He is dodging the real issue. This needs urgent policing and control. While we’re on the subject of policing, where are they?
The basic complaint is down to noise. However, the really serious side to this ongoing problem is safety.
These individuals exceed the legal speed limits by a massive margin. Effective speed control should be applied and enforced punitively, not just playing lip service, as this then allows these dangerous idiots carte blanche to roar around Hout Bay unrestricted.
Mr Jacobs, please take this more seriously, or someone will die.
