Lythe Pillay wins men’s 400m title at World University Games

IN A THRILLING display of speed and determination, South Africa's Lythe Pillay clinched the men’s 400m title at the World University Games in Germany on Wednesday. 

Pillay, 22, showed prowess on the track, crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 44.84 seconds, signalling his readiness for the forthcoming Tokyo 2025 Games.

From the moment the starting gun fired, he established himself as the dominant force in the race. 

Following him on the podium were Hungary’s Patrick Enyingi, who secured the silver medal with a time of 45.41 seconds, and Italy’s Edoardo Scotti, who took bronze with a finish of 45.61 seconds.

As he prepares for Tokyo 2025, the spotlight will undoubtedly be on this rising athletics star. 

According to the website teams.co.za, South Africa went into day eight of the competition today lying fifth on the medals table.

They started the day with 12 medals, with four golds, coming from Pieter Coetze (2), Bayanda Walaza and Lythe Pillay, all Paris Olympians.

The games will be held until July 27.
