In a showcase of skill and determination, 22-year-old golfer Yurav Premlall from Johannesburg has secured his first DP World Tour title at the 2026 Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, held at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, Spain.

Premlall, currently ranked 598, displayed an extraordinary performance, winning the tournament by an impressive 14 strokes.

With ten birdies in a flawless outing, Premlall shot an incredible second consecutive round of 9-under 63, culminating in a jaw-dropping total of 28-under par for the tournament.

This achievement not only earned him the title but also a prize of $50,000, affirming his potential on the global golfing stage.

In an interview with fullview.co.za, Premlall said he had worked hard to get into this position and it was rewarding to finally see the results of it.

“I’m just so grateful, so it’s a dream come true,” he reportedly said.

The excitement surrounding Premlall's victory spread beyond the Spanish fairways, garnering support from fans and golf aficionados in South Africa.

The 1860 Heritage Centre in Durban celebrated his win on social media, proclaiming: “Papwa smiles too as we hear the roar of Papwa, Papwa, Papwa!”

This reference mirrors the rich history of golf in South Africa, as “Papwa” refers to the legendary golfer Papwa Sewgolum.

Comments of encouragement flooded in from admirer.

Jayraj Singh commented: "Congrats to Yurav Premlall, a young man born and raised in the Shallcross Area, West of Durban. I believe his inspiration came from a family tree, both paternal and maternal, that took the sport of playing golf very seriously. Rakesh (Yurav's dad) invested time, patience and guidance into Yurav and the returns are handsomely received. To Yurav, keep hitting that golf ball and 'burn' the course in your wake. We are proud of you."

Chris Tredoux added: "Absolutely talented. All the best and many more victories to come.  Fond memories of your dad at Umbogintwini back in the early 2000s and later at Toti Golf Club. You were a small kid but your dad was competitive and could putt well. Keep it up Yurav. We are following your career and wishing you the best.."

Yashwin Singh wrote: "Congrats Yurav. Watched the final round on TV and it was nothing short of brilliant and recording breaking. All the best for the future."

The cherry on the cake could have been the post by legendary South African golfer, Ernie Else. He wrote on Facebook: "Unbelievable performance by Yurav Premlall today. Young South African golf truly showing their talent on the world stage - brilliant to watch! Congrats young man! @dpworldtour #EDCC2026"

In a previous interview, IOL reported that that Premlall was the youngest player to compete in the SA Open at 15-years-old.
