MI Cape Town head coach Robin Peterson is pleased with the continuity in his squad after securing the return of several familiar faces for the fourth edition of the SA20.
Although they missed out on retaining star batter Dewald Brevis, wicket-keeper batter Connor Esterhuizen, and all-rounder Delano Potgieter, the defending champions were successful in keeping the core group of players that helped them win the title earlier this year.
Top-order batters Rassie van der Dussen (R5.2 million) and Reeza Hendricks (R500,000), along with off-spinner Dane Piedt (R200,000), are among those set to return to the iconic Newlands Stadium for Season 4.
Peterson expressed satisfaction with how the auction played out.
“Very happy. I think a lot of the things we planned for, we managed to pull off today. So, we’re excited,” said Peterson.
“Yes, we didn’t get one or two players from last year that we wanted back, but that’s okay. We’re pretty happy with the blend we have going into the fourth edition. It’s exciting times.”
He highlighted the importance of securing Van der Dussen once more, along with Hendricks, who he believes form a solid base at the top of the order.
“Getting Rassie van der Dussen back was a big win. Rassie and Reeza at the top of the order really set the tone. They've been formidable over the last two seasons, and we feel they’re just getting better and better as a partnership.
“Continuity is so important in South Africa — especially having players who can handle the new ball. That was a key part of our plan for today, and we’re glad it came together.”
The fourth season of the SA20 is set to begin on Boxing Day at Newlands, with MI Cape Town opening their title defence against Durban’s Super Giants.
