Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke has praised teammate and captain Matthew de Villiers for both his good form and leadership in the ongoing Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge.
De Villiers currently occupies the top spot in the leading run scorers list in the tournament thus far with 248 runs at an average of 62.
The 24-year-old has smashed three fifties in five innings this season, leading the Gqeberha-based unit to four wins in five matches.
Breetzke, having returned from international duty in Pakistan, where he captained the Proteas ODI side, has praised the young batter for both his form and leadership.
"Matty de Villiers has been batting really well and has a really simple game plan in the way he goes about his business," Breetzke told Independent Media.
"To have a guy like that at number three who bats through and holds the batting together, it's awesome to have. He's got the troops together really nicely, and tactically he's been really good."
Breetzke highlighted that the energy in the team has been good this season, a feat that he believes has led to their success.
"The energy has been amazing since I've been back. Even in the Four-Day stuff, the energy and the vibe in the group have been unreal this season," he said.
"It helps when you're winning games. I think we have a good mix of players who are hungry to win and are close to each other. It's been awesome being back."
The Warriors host the table-topping Boland at St George's Park Cricket Stadium on Wednesday for what will be a top-of-the-table clash as the Warriors sit at second place in the standings.
Breetzke has emphasised that the team that plays the conditions the best will most likely emerge victorious.
"It's going to be a tough game. Boland is a side that has been playing really well for the last two years," Breetzke said.
"Their team hasn't changed much in the last two to three years, so they know how to go about their business. For us, it will be just trying to play the conditions.
"We know the conditions at St George's, and I think whoever plays the conditions the best will come out on top."
The clash between the Warriors andBolan is set to get underway at 6 pm SAST.
Before that fixture, the defending champions, Lions, will clash against the Dragons at the Wanderers Stadium at 1 pm SAST.
The Lions are yet to win a game in the tournament thus far and will hope to get their campaign underway at home on Wednesday.
