Proteas allrounder Wiaan Mulder’s record-breaking 367 not out in the second Test against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo has seen him skyrocket up the ICC Test batting rankings.

Mulder was ranked 73rd among batters, 58th among bowlers and as the 22nd-ranked all-rounder ahead of the two-match series in Zimbabwe.

The 27-year-old was prolific against the Proteas’ neighbours, amassing 531 runs at a mammoth average of 265.50 and claiming seven wickets in the two Tests, to move up a whopping 34 places to a career-best 22nd position on the ICC batting charts.

He also raised four places on the bowling charts, but more significantly up to a career-best third position among all-rounders, now only behind India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

“It’s super special. It's something I dreamt of as a kid. To captain the country is one of the biggest honour you can get as a cricketer,” said Mulder after also leading his country for the first time in Bulawayo.

“I was disappointed in the way I got out in the first Test. Coming into this game, I tried my best, just let the outcome go and focused on what I could do in the moment.

“I just want to play whatever role, coach makes the decision. We go to the subcontinent from here...my role might change but I just want to perform.

“Lot of guys put up their hand … everyone contributed in their own ways and that's good to see for South African cricket

Others to advance from performances at Bulawayo include fellow Proteas David Bedingham, who moved up four places to 43rd after scoring his first Test half-century since October last year.

Teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius’ sensational start to Test cricket has seen the powerful left-hander move up to 60th place after adding a half-century to his century on debut last week.

All-rounder Corbin Bosch’s 10 wickets at 13.90 has seen him moved up six places to 51st on the bowling list.
