Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the appointment of Patrick Moroney as the new Convenor of Selectors for the Proteas Men’s Team.
With a wealth of experience and a keen eye for talent, Moroney is set to begin his role on 1 August 2025, reporting directly to Enoch Nkwe, the Director of National Teams and High Performance.
Moroney’s cricketing journey has been marked by diverse roles that showcase both his leadership and selection acumen.
Starting as the Director of Sport and Marketing at the high school level, he has since escalated through various selector positions, notably contributing to the Youth Men Talent Identification Programme and serving as the Lions Cricket Convenor of Selectors.
His extensive background enables him to bring a nuanced understanding to his new responsibilities.
Since honing his selection skills in 2001, Moroney has enjoyed a rich career both in youth and senior cricket. He has previously served as the Convenor of Selectors for several significant national teams, including the SA National Academy, SA Emerging team, and the Men’s U19 squad.
This breadth of experience prepares him well for the strategic challenges ahead as he collaborates with the Proteas Men's Head Coach Shukri Conrad.
Enoch Nkwe expressed enthusiasm at Moroney’s appointment, saying, "CSA is extremely proud to welcome Patrick into this pivotal role as Convenor Selector for the Proteas Men’s Team.
"His deep understanding of the game, combined with decades of experience in talent identification and selection across various levels, makes him the ideal person for the job."
Moroney's new position at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Pretoria not only reinforces CSA’s commitment to developing talent but also signifies a step towards a promising future for the Proteas.
With Moroney at the helm of selections, cricket fans are eager to see how his strategic insights will influence the team’s performance on the international stage.
