South Africa off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been reported with a suspect bowling action during the first ODI against Australia in Cairns on Tuesday.

The match officials’ report cited concerns about the legality of the 31-year-old’s bowling action.

Subrayen will undergo an Independent Assessment of his bowling action at an ICC Accredited Testing facility to determine the legality of his bowling action.

The 31-year-old has been down this road before, however, not at this scale, in that he was reported in domestic competitions, not in international cricket.

His first case was during the Champions League in 2014, where Subrayen's domestic team, the Dolphins, played against the Lahore Lions in Bangalore.

The umpires Kumar Dharamsena, Vineet Kulkarni and Anil Chaudhary, who had officiated in the Dolphins-Lions match, reported the suspect bowling action. In that game, Subrayen's action wasn't the only one that raised the umpires' eyebrows, as former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez's was also placed under the microscope.

That case was handled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, whose findings had no influence in international cricket.

A year later, Subrayen was banned, this time here at home during the RAM Slam T20 competition, for a suspect bowling action.

At 22 years old at the time, Subrayen's bowling action didn't fall within the required 15-degree angle in the match between the Dolphins and the Titans at SuperSport Park in 2015.

He went on to play three matches after that incident before his action was deemed illegal and he was subsequently banned from the tournament.

It still remains to be seen whether or not the spinner will play the remainder of the series, with the next match being on Friday and then the last being on Sunday.
