Bryson DeChambeau won a whopping R119 million after winning the individual and team competitions in the inaugural LIV Golf South Africa event at The Club at Steyn City on Sunday.
DeChambeau pocketed R68m for beating Jon Rahm in a playoff, and for leading his Crushers GC to team victory, he earned another R51m.
Rahm, meanwhile, earned R38 for the individual competition and another R11m with Legion GC.
Thomas Detry, Branden Grace, and Abraham Ancer all made R18m each for a tie for third in the individual competition.
Grace added a handy R25m with Southern Guards GC, who finished as runners-up in the team competition. It brought his total earnings for the week to an incredible R43m.
Fellow Southern Guards player Dean Burmester finished in a tie for sixth, earning R11m to add to bring his week’s pay to a rather pleasing R36m.
Southern Guards skipper Louis Oosthuizen ended in a share of 17th, for an individual payout of R4m as he banked R29m overall.
Charl Schwartzel was the lowest finisher for the Southern Guards, down in 24th place, which gave him R3m. That saw him heading to the bank with R28m for his four days’ work.
Before the start of the final round, it was confirmed that LIV Golf South Africa will return to The Club at Steyn City in 2027.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s final round at Steyn City, SA Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie confirmed that the tournament will be back from April 22 to 25 next year, with ambitions to grow it even further after an overwhelming response from fans.
