Everything you need to know about the Ryder Cup 2025

The Ryder Cup is a prestigious golf tournament contested between teams from the United States and Europe. The format is a match-play event, where teams compete in a series of head-to-head matches over three days. The 26th of September 2025  will see the European team take on the USA. 

On the first two days, fourball and foursomes matches are played, with each match featuring two players from each team. Fourball is a format where each player plays their own ball, and the team with the lowest score on each hole wins. Foursomes, on the other hand, is a format where two players from each team play alternate shots with one ball.

On the third and final day, singles matches are played, with each player competing against a player from the opposing team. The singles matches are also played in a match-play format, where the player winning the most holes wins the match.

The scoring in the Ryder Cup is based on the number of holes won by each team or player. If a team or player wins a hole, they earn a point. If the teams or players tie on a hole, the hole is halved, and no points are awarded. The team or player winning the most holes wins the match.

Each team consists of 12 players, selected by their respective captains. The selection process typically involves a combination of qualification and captain's picks. Players earn points based on their performance in tournaments leading up to the Ryder Cup, and the captain selects additional players to complete the team.

The Ryder Cup is hosted by either the United States or Europe, with the venue alternating between the two. The course is selected by the hosting country, and it's typically a challenging layout that demands strategic play.

The team earning the most points over the three days wins the Ryder Cup. If the score is tied after the singles matches on the final day, the competition goes into a playoff, with the teams competing in a sudden-death format until a winner is determined. Catch you on the fairways !
