As the Springboks look to bounce back from a disappointing 24-17 defeat at Eden Park last weekend, all eyes turn to their deciding clash against the New Zealand All Blacks on Saturday in Wellington.

With their hopes of winning back-to-back Rugby Championship titles hanging by a thread, the world champions are fired up not only to restore pride at the Cake Tin (kick-off 09.05am SA time) but also to retain the coveted Freedom Cup in their storied rivalry with New Zealand.

The All Blacks arrive with momentum after breaking a four-match losing streak against South Africa in Auckland. They will now look to challenge the Springboks for the Freedom Cup spoils and put themselves in position to claim the overall title once again.

The Springboks, however, are determined to produce a stronger display. Utility back Damian Willemse, who starts at inside centre on Saturday, says they know exactly what kind of battle awaits.

“We are expecting a physical rugby game; that has always been the case with the All Blacks,” Willemse said.

“It will be a Test match of small margins again. Last week we had the chance to draw the game, but we couldn’t capitalise. So, it will be another big, epic Test: the All Blacks vs South Africa, No. 1 vs No. 2 in the world. We can expect everything from them.”

Despite the setback in Auckland, the Springboks are determined to channel their frustration into a focused performance. The disappointment still lingers, but the team is motivated to set things right.

“Obviously, we can’t change what happened last week, but we put that behind us after our review,” Willemse added.

“Knowing where we went wrong, we are looking forward to Saturday, to ensure we go out, play positively, and get the victory. That is our focus.”
