The Stormers know there's an added layer of responsibility on their shoulders ahead of the new United Rugby Championship (URC) season, as they aim to become a winning team once again.
After two years of disappointment in the quarter-finals of the European tournament, the Cape side will shift their focus to reclaiming their spot among the top teams—having won the URC in its inaugural year and reaching a consecutive final in the second season.
However, over the past couple of campaigns, the team hasn’t been able to replicate the highs of those first two seasons. But according to Stormers leaders Salmaan Moerat and Deon Fourie, that’s something they’re determined to change in the upcoming season.
With a newly unveiled logo, renewed partnerships, and global apparel giant adidas back to design their new kits, the Cape side will look to reassert their URC title credentials ahead of a tough season opener against Leinster next month.
“We had the rebranding a couple of months ago, and now adidas, as a global brand, is back, so I do think there will be more responsibility on us as a team,” Moerat said.
“Brands want to associate themselves with championships, and that’s our goal. We want to win, bring trophies back to Cape Town, and become a household name in world rugby. It’s been about eight years since adidas was last on board (after ending the partnership in 2017).
“As a kid, going to Newlands and seeing the Stormers playing in that jersey, you only wanted to play for them.”
Fourie added that the squad was pleased to hear the apparel sponsor was returning, but they also understand the added pressure, especially after launching the new logo.

“The pressure will be there, but we don’t want to go out and have a poor season and then have people say it’s because we changed things,” the veteran said.
The home jersey concept — Reunite the Stripes — stays true to the Stormers’ roots. Dominated by the classic blue and white hoops of Western Province, it pays homage to the club’s rich history and pride while embracing a modern evolution.
The away jersey concept — Remix the Stripes — takes a more vibrant approach. Inspired by the spirited streets of Bo-Kaap, a neighbourhood known for its deep rugby heritage, cultural diversity, and vibrantly coloured homes, the jersey bursts with electric hues of lucid pink, lime burst, and lucid cyan. It’s a remix of tradition that celebrates freedom, energy, and individuality.
The home jersey will be available from 19 September, while the away jersey will go on sale from 3 October.
