EFF, PSL leads tributes for veteran broadcaster Phumlani Msibi

Legendary SuperSport broadcaster and commentator Phumlani Msibi died on Friday.

Late in the evening, SuperSport confirmed the death of Msibi.

It’s believed Msibi died after a short illness.

He was 57.

“SuperSport is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary sports commentator, presenter and anchor Phumlani Msibi. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues following this great loss,” said SuperSport in a tribute to the veteran presenter.

Msibi covered a number of sports including soccer, boxing and horse racing.

Following the news of Msibi’s death, tributes poured in from all quarters on X.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said: “The EFF sends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of legendary sports anchor Phumulani Msibi following his passing.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Tributes Pour In for Legendary Sports Broadcaster Phumlani Msibi

The Premier Soccer League said: “The PSL is deeply saddened by the passing of legendary sports broadcaster, Mr Phumlani Msibi.

“The League extends its heartfelt condolences to the Msibi family during this difficult time.

“As a mark of respect, a moment of silence will be observed ahead of today’s Promotion Play-off fixture in honour of his legacy.

“May his soul repose peacefully.”

Betway Premiership team SuperSport United wrote: “Rest in Peace, Phumlani Msibi. A legendary commentator and presenter whose voice brought the game to life for so many.

“Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his work during his remarkable career.

“Your passion and presence will never be forgotten.”

Monwabisi Kete wrote: “Mr Msibi will be remembered for the moments he laughed heartily and the times he tried so hard to hold back his laughter.

“Today, his words - “I am Phumlani Msibi, bye-bye” - carry a deeper meaning.”
