In their build-up to their crucial Fifa Club World Cup clash against Fluminense, Mamelodi Sundowns held a special coaching clinic for a group of underprivileged children from the local community in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The youth clinic, run by the club alongside Roc Nation Sports, took place on Tuesday afternoon and brought together more than 50 children for an afternoon of fun, football, mentorship, and community celebration, merging the worlds of South Florida and South Africa.
It was facilitated by Sundowns' Head of Academy and Coaching Paulo Cardoso, along with leading coaches, club legends, and representatives from the club, as well as senior leadership including chairman Tlhopie Motsepe.
Participants took part in training drills and skills sessions, and shared special experiences with the Mamelodi Sundowns team, which also saw the children gifted club jerseys.
This unique grassroots football initiative was a major highlight on Sundowns’ Club World Cup journey, and served to inspire and empower local youth through the power of sport, while introducing them to the magic of soccer.
Sundowns’ next assignment at the Club World Cup is a clash against Brazilian outfit Fluminense on Wednesday night. The game kicks off at 9pm, and Miguel Cardoso’s men will need all three points in order to advance to the knock-out stage of the competition.
The club began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over South Korean side Ulsan HD, followed up by a narrow 4-3 loss to German giants Borussia Dortmund.
