With the rumours swirling that Mihlali Mayambela may be considering a move from Aris Limassol to Kaizer Chiefs, whether the player will actually make the move back home is now seemingly less likely.
The 28-year-old Bafana Bafana player is currently filling a key role at the club in Cyprus, and a hefty price tag might dissuade the Soweto Giants from making a big move for his signature.
According to Kick Off, Chiefs would have to fork out around R4 million for Mayambela.
The website also reports that Limassol may also invoke the option to renew Mayambela’s contract.
“There was a conversation. You know the club is moving in a different direction, you can see with the signings they made now, they are busy trying to put a strong team,” Mayambela said on Soccerbeat YouTube Channel.
“But also, where I am, I’m in a place where I don’t need to move if I don’t have to. I’m here playing every game. I have a big role in my team, I’m being respected here.”
Mayambela did, however, confirm there had been meetings between himself and the Amakhosi.
"But there is an interest from Chiefs. There were talks between me and the Sporting Director (Kaizer Motaung Jr). He's doing his job, trying to make a good squad to compete, bring [back] the glory days.
“Being at Chiefs maybe is this guy's (brother Mark Mayambela) dream, but I don't know when it will happen. Will it happen? Maybe I can say ‘yes’ more than a ‘no’. I don't know when, it doesn't only depend on me," he added.
