The looming departure of Jose Riveiro from his post as the Orlando Pirates coach has caught many by surprise, including the opposition.
But such is the nature of the game and the honesty of Riveiro, the Spaniard’s decision to step down was inevitable.
Riveiro has always said that staying at a club for more than three seasons is not part of his plans, but he’d only consider that if there was an option.
You look at how well he has done at Pirates, given how much he had initially been ridiculed, it was easy to assume that he’d have stayed. But it wasn’t to be.
Sure, Riveiro should be given his flowers while he can still smell them but it would be detrimental not to focus on what has been happening to their neighbours.

SuperSport and City are flirting with relegation at the moment. And given the history of the two cubs, that’s uncharacteristic of them.
These two clubs are regarded as part of the big five. So, SuperSport and City need to salvage that when they face Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune United.
SuperSport will visit Gallants Dr Rantlai Petrus Stadium on Saturday afternoon, while City will be at home to Babina Noko at Cape Town on Sunday night.
