Kaizer Chiefs will enter their final game of the season with their top-eight hopes on the line as they welcome Polokwane City to the FNB Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Still haunted by last season’s 10th-place finish, Amakhosi will be desperate to end the season on a stronger note, knowing that victory will seal their return to the top half after last year’s disappointing end to their league campaign.
Dillan Solomons has been in good touch since returning from injury, and despite Chiefs enduring a difficult campaign overall, the fullback has been one of the more consistent performers.
Saturday’s fixture carries the weight of a final, and Solomons insists the team are fully focused on securing all three points.
“We are looking to get the three points that we need this weekend,” Solomons said on Wednesday at the Chiefs media open day ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“After the last game, we had a few days off to recover, and the team is looking good.
“We need to win the game on the weekend, and that is all we have our minds set on.”
The 28-year-old defender believes the squad are in a positive mental space, especially following their efforts in the Nedbank Cup, even though they had to quickly shift focus back to the league.
“The mood in the camp is very good; we know that we won the Nedbank Cup, but celebrations were cut short because we had to focus on the rest of the league games,” Solomons continued.
“We know as a team where we should be, and it hasn’t been going well for us as a team, but we know where we want to be and what type of team we want to be.
“Going into the last game of the season, we know we need to get the three points, so that we can compete in every competition next season.”
