In a heartfelt announcement that has united the Kaizer Chiefs community in solidarity, the club has confirmed that head coach Nasreddine Nabi will not be travelling with the team for their opening match of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on Sunday.
The decision follows a serious accident involving his wife at their home in Tunisia, prompting the coach to urgently return to his home country to support his family during this critical time.
While the team prepares to kick off what promises to be an exciting season, all eyes will now turn to the interim leadership on the bench. Coach Nabi’s trusted first assistant, Khalil Ben Youssef, along with second assistant Cedric Kaze, will lead the team in his absence.
The technical staff have already held discussions to ensure the squad is well-prepared for the fixture, maintaining their strategic approach despite the challenging circumstances.
Kaizer Chiefs released a statement saying: “We would like to extend our best wishes to Coach Nabi and his family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Supporters and fans are also encouraged to keep the Nabi family in their thoughts, highlighting the emotional bond that connects the club and its people.
As Chiefs gear up to face Stellenbosch FC at Cape Town Stadium, the atmosphere will undoubtedly reflect the absence of Coach Nabi.
However, the determination of the players and coaching staff will surely come to the fore as they begin this new chapter — united by the challenges both on and off the pitch
