Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has revealed the reason why star forward Relebohile Mofokeng missed their Betway Premiership clash against Orbit College on Tuesday night.

Without their star man, Pirates managed to get the job done and bag their second league win of the season. However, with speculation linking the 20-year-old with a move abroad, many began to wonder if the club were simply preparing for life without him.

Now, it has come to light that Mofokeng actually missed the game as he was dealing with an injury.

“About Rele, I have to discuss with the medical department, they communicated with me that he cannot be part of the game,” Ouaddou said after the game at Orlando Stadium, as reported by Soccer Laduma.

“But we still don’t have full feedback on the exam that he should do. I hope it’s nothing serious because we need him.”

Mofokeng, though, continues to be linked with a transfer away from the club. Just last week, it was reported that Major League Soccer side Minnesota United had submitted an offer worth $2 million (around R35 million) for the forward.

According to reports, the clubs were still in discussions to get the deal over the line. Should Mofokeng complete the move, he will link up with fellow South African Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who has been a popular figure at the club since 2022.

Other clubs that have reportedly been keeping tabs on Mofokeng are Egypt’s Pyramids FC, Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, as well as Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, who recently signed Mohau Nkota.
