Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen says the team needs to get on with the job following head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s sacking last week.
Nabi was given the boot following Chiefs’ 3-1 loss to league leaders Sekhukhune United, which was their first of the season. Chiefs had started the season with four wins from five games, but rumblings about Nabi’s future had been going on since before the season kicked off.
Petersen, who has cemented his place as the club’s number one, felt it wouldn’t be good for his teammates to dwell too much on what had already happened.
“This is the nature of football. Coaches come, and coaches go. Players come, and players go,” the shot-stopper said, as quoted by HollywoodBets.
“We can’t dwell too much on that. Obviously, it’s not nice to lose a coach. But at the end of the day, we have a job at hand.”
According to the 31-year-old, the focus should now shift to their upcoming games as they remain in the top three after a good start to the season.
“And it’s for us to go and perform to the best of our ability in every game, every opportunity we get. So, the main focus now is Wednesday; we have a game coming up.
“So, our job is to go out there and fix what we have to fix and continue with our good run.”
Amakhosi, who will now be under the guidance of assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Youssef Ben Khalil, take on Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, and they will be hoping for the maximum three points to maintain their decent start to the season. The team could climb as high as second place if results go their way.
