Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was clearly a mix of emotions after his side lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows in their Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium, in Durban, on Wednesday.

The visitors dominated almost every aspect of the game, including possession with a whopping 73% of the ball.

Junior Dion bagged the opener on the half-hour mark for Arrows, and despite their best efforts, Sundowns could not find a goal of their own.

Whether it was the way Arrows played or some questionable officiating which Cardoso took exception to, was not clear.

Cardoso Reflects on Arrows’ Performance and Future Prospects

“Some decisions didn’t go well in today’s game inside the pitch,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the game.

Though Arrows did actually have more shots at goal with 13 to the nine of Sundowns, Cardoso said the scoreline should have been vastly different.

“I think we did enough [to create] goals today to win the match. I think we scored four goals. So I think we did enough to win the match.

“The boys will lift [themselves up] because they have that strength …”

“But I just want to make it clear, in normal conditions, we’d be champions. In normal conditions, we’ll be champions again,” said Cardoso without explaining what he meant by ‘normal conditions’.

The loss meant Sundowns remained on 18 points after nine matches. In fact, though Sundowns have won just five of their nine league fixtures this season so far, the Arrows result was the first loss of their campaign.

The champions, however, have drawn three times already as Sekhukhune United top the log with 20 points after eight games with Sundowns trailing in second.
