DURBAN - A fetus was found wrapped in a plastic packet and dumped in a city dustbin on Tuesday morning. Police in KwaZulu-Natal have appealed to people who may have information to contact the police.
Police said the fetus was discovered at about 8am on Dr Pixley ka Seme (West) Street.
Rescue Care Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, they found the fetus wrapped in a plastic packet inside the bin.
"We received a tip off in the early hours of the morning at about 8:30 from onlookers saying they found a baby in the bin. The fetus was declared dead on the scene, not dressed and wrapped in a plastic packet," said Jamieson.
Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said police were investigating a case of concealment of birth at the Durban Central Police Station. No arrests had been made and police have appealed to people who may have information to contact the police.
