Zikalala: Men must end patriarchy

DURBAN -  MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala believes that it is the job of men to ensure that patriarchy is done away with. 

Speaking at the launch of the Forbes Leading Women Summit at Elangeni Hotel in Durban, Zikalala said the event would inspire, connect and empower women in a world where patriarchy continues burden on women. 

"It features pertinent conversations of the day on socially manufactured disabilities that stand between women and their dreams, their talent and their disempowerment, their vision and the cancer of patriarchy.," said Zikalala. 

The summit itself which brings just over 100 top women speakers from around the world, will take place on International Women's Day on March 8 next year.

After talks with the KwaZulu-Natal Convention Bureau, the event will move to Durban, a huge shift since the event was held in Johannesburg since its inception. 

Head of ICC Lindiwe Raicharebe, MEC Sihle Zikalala and Managing director Roberpa Naicker at the official opening of the Forbes Leaders summit which will take place next year.

Zikalala said bringing the event to the province was good for economic growth, tourism and showcasing the diversity of the the province. 

Methil Renuka, Editor of Forbes Africa and Forbes Woman Africa said: "With speakers from across the continent, the summit was an instant hit and has grown year-on-year, both in terms of attendees and support, to become a must-do calendar event for leading women across industries in Africa and beyond".

 

Renuka said they are excited to be bringing the event to KZN. 

Featuring keynote talks, panel discussions, one-on-one interviews and interstitial spotlights, the 2019 Forbes Leading Women Summit will be a gathering of voices and insights of a diverse range of female luminaries.
