The new M5 MacBook Pro 14” will go on sale next week at the iStore, and will feature a welcome price cut.
Before the new M5 model was announced on Wednesday, the M4 MacBook Pro 14” was selling for R35,999 from the iStore.
It was also confirmed on Wednesday that the M5 would go on sale starting at $1599 in the USA.
That works out to around R27,900. However, with import costs and taxes, that amount is always significantly higher when it hits local shores.
The new M5, though, will now go on sale in South Africa from R34,499 from the iStore next Wednesday. This is R1500 less than the previous starting price for the M4.
That M4 version, though, has immediately been dropped in price to R31,999. That means that although the M5 is an absolute beast of a machine, which I wrote about in detail on Thursday, the M4 may just be the better value buy as it’s still a highly-powered workhorse in its own right.
Also announced by Apple on Wednesday was the new Vision Pro and iPad Pros with the same M5 chips. While the Vision Pro is not available in South Africa from the iStore, it can be purchased through third-party sellers who offer parallel imports.
The M5 iPad Pro has also gone on sale starting at R21,499 and will also begin shipping from the iStore next Wednesday.
