Social messaging platform WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will make the process of focusing on favourites much easier for users of the app.

This is according to the WhatsApp blog.

WhatsApp said that users can quickly find the people and groups that matter most at the top of your calls tab and as a filter for their chats.

Whether it is a family group chat or a chat with a best friend, the ‘favourites’ will be the same across the chats and calls tabs, so users can speed dial them from the calls tab too.

Here is a step-by-step guide to adding favourites on WhatsApp:

1. From your chats screen, select the ‘favourites’ filter, and select your contacts or groups there.

2. From the calls tab, tap ‘Add favourite’ and select your contacts or groups.

3. Or, you can manage your ‘favourites’ in your settings by going to Settings > Favourites > Add to Favourites, and you can reorder them at any time.

WhatsApp said that the new feature will be rolled out to users and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

In May, the Meta-owned messaging platform said that they were introducing a new way for people to organise events on WhatsApp to help bring communities together.

With this feature anyone can create an event and others can respond so the whole group knows which members of the group will be attending the event.

Guests can also find the event in the group’s information page, and those going will get an automatic notification when the event is getting closer.

WhatsApp said that the new events feature will be coming to groups that belong to a Community first, and will then roll out to all groups over the coming months.
