Tributes flood in for popular actress Busisiwe Lurayi

The entertainment industry is mourning the death of popular actress Busisiwe Lurayi.

The actress was pronounced dead by medical personnel on July 10, 2022 at her residence in Johannesburg.

Lurayi’s family confirmed her death and said they were waiting for the autopsy results.

“We are deeply saddened to notify you of the passing of our beloved Busisiwe Lurayi. Busisiwe passed away suddenly and was pronounced dead at her residence on Sunday 10. 07. 2022 by medical personnel. The reason for her death is still unknown as we wait for the autopsy report.”

“We humbly request that you allow us as the family to come to terms with this tragic news. We thank you for the support that has been given so far and will provide further information as soon as it becomes available.”

Lurayi is best known for her lead role in the Netflix hit series, ‘How to ruin Christmas’. She also acted in the local sitcom, ‘Ses Top’la’.

Many people took to social media to send their condolences to her family and loved ones.

Broadcaster Refilwe Moloto wrote on her social media account: “What an injustice. Busi Lurayi is the flame that caught my eye and lured me to the artistic fire that is How to ruin Christmas. All lost is painful, but to have such a bright light snuffed out at just 35, as her star was cresting, seems deeply unfair.”

Renowned actress Terry Pheto wrote: “What a great loss”.

Netflix said it would hold on to her laughs, the beauty, and the moments of joy she brought it.

“An incredible light has gone out in the South African entertainment industry. We are deeply saddened by the passing of the award-winning stage and screen actor Busi Lurayi.”

The Safta award-winning actress will be remembered for her commitment and remarkable talent.
