Johannesburg - Business leader Onyinye Anyaebgu speaks about their latest innovation called Artsplit, an application that aims to create a community for art lovers across the continent to enjoy and invest in African artworks.

As many things progress into the digital space, the Artsplit application makes things easier for many African artists as well as those who want to buy an artwork.

This art trading platform for investment-grade African artworks is set to launch officially in three of its key operating regions across Africa, mainly in South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana.

The application allows art lovers to trade their splits of prestigious African artworks in real-time.

Explaining this application, Anyaebgu who is the executive director of Artsplit, pointed out that Artsplit gives collectors opportunities to liquidate their work without necessarily losing the work.

“It truly came from trying to find a solution to the collector issue, so in Nigeria, you have all these collectors that have great pieces and no spaces to hang them. You have all the wonderful artworks just stuck on people’s walls and one of our co-founders is a collector and has similar problems. The conversation started on how you make this problem a solution in a way. The conversation started and evolved over time,” said Anyaebgu.

It is also revealed that the company is digitising the space by having an app that allows investors, art collectors and artists to have visibility, flexibility and secure access to buy and sell artworks.

Having recently introduced the platform to art lovers, Anyaebgu said they had already amassed quite a considerable number of users.

“We have over 10 000 users now on our application and we have created a timeline where people can post about art. You can also go in and post about the work you are working on as an emerging artist. And people can see, follow, like and be part of your story,” said Anyaebgu
