Cape Town - Pupils at Merrydale Primary School in Mitchells Plain were treated to a heart-warming surprise on Wednesday morning when the Pick n Pay School Club partnered with Pick n Pay asap! – the retailer’s on-demand delivery service – to have the “Easter Bunny” deliver goodies for an extra memorable experience.
Planned as a surprise, learners shrieked with excitement at seeing the Pick n Pay asap! Bunny and his fellow riders entered their school gate on their delivery bikes.
The drive formed part of the many initiatives the Pick n Pay School Club has done with the school in the past, including library renovations and food drives.
Principal, Trevor Diligee, stressed the importance of the event for pupils.
“Looking at my learners, they come from broken homes, and it’s always nice for me to see a smile on their faces. In terms of our learners, they don’t always stay with their mothers and fathers that can afford to bring a smile to their faces with a small treat. As a school, we try to do things that will put that smile back on their faces and bring happiness into their lives,” he said.
Pick n Pay School asap! representative Ianthe Sandnes said her team was asked to get involved in the event by the Pick n Pay School Club.
“We partnered with the Pick n Pay School Club and our big concept is to deliver joy. We thought this was the most perfect platform to do so. We want to deliver a bit of joy to all of our consumers and shoppers’ lives and extend that in partnership with the Pick n Pay School club and do our bit to bring some joy to the little kiddies’ lives,” she said.
The laughter and joy throughout the event was clear to see and showed what kind of effect community work could have, especially on young children.
