Cape Town - South African skateboard champ Jean-Marc Johannes has broken two Guinness World Records in one day.
Johannes broke the world record for the most 360's in 30 seconds - the previous record was six, his record was seven - and the most consecutive Ollie's - the previous record was 302, while Johannes completed 326 - at Battery Park on Sunday as part of the Stumbo Record Breakers series.
“I feel honoured to have been able to attempt the records, I'm grateful for the opportunity and the support from everyone,” he said.
Growing up on the Cape Flats in Athlone, Johannes developed a passion for skateboarding at the age of 10 and went on to win his first accolade at 15.
His skateboarding career took off from there and he has since competed in competitions across the globe, taking his passion to unimaginable heights.
He said: “I have also returned to South Africa this month after placing 3rd in the International Fise Skateboarding Freestyle Tour which took place in Switzerland last month, including a first place in the Best trick section of the event, this took place on the 24th of September 2022. Similarly, I received Gold, Silver and Bronze at the FISE world series and Indonesia Pro Open event.”
Johannes believes young people should be given the opportunity to explore skateboarding as a career.
“In the beginning there was a lot of doubt that I could achieve my dreams but knowing that (I can) has definitely driven me, and hopefully in some way inspire others in the community to believe that they can achieve their dreams too. It is my passion now to help others in to learm skateboarding and also pursue it professionally; I hope I can give motivation to others to do so,” he said.
