DURBAN - Pupils disrupted teaching and learning again, this time at a Merebank school, south of Durban.

On Friday, PT Alarms was called out to Merebank Secondary School after some pupils started exhibiting strange behaviour.

“Chaos has erupted at Merebank Secondary School where PT ambulance service and PT tactical units were called for assistance after some pupils were found to be displaying signs of being in pain and discomfort while screaming uncontrollably,” PT Alarms said.

PT paramedics treated teenage girls experiencing discomfort and attempted to stabilise them.

“The affected pupils were holding their ears and screaming in terror,” PT Alarms said.

“School management took control of the situation and attempted to maintain calm but scores of pupils have reacted to the situation by banging on the doors and gates and trying to push their way out of the school premises.”

PT Alarms said parents arrived at the school and fetched their children.

It said the sharing of the information was not to evoke sensationalism or incite panic but rather to inform the community about developments.

Last Tuesday PT Alarms tactical units stood down at Ganges Secondary School in Durban following reports of ancestral callings at the school.

Pupils made their way out of the school and parents were present to fetch their children.

On February 25, PT Alarms responded to PR Pather Secondary School, also in Merebank, after receiving reports of ancestral callings. The pupils were dismissed.

PT Alarms said the learners displaying strange behaviour were attended to by paramedics.

It said pupils appeared to be displaying movements resembling a seizure.

A similar incident occurred at AD Lazarus Secondary in Reservoir Hills the previous day.

IOL reported that in Pietermaritzburg, pupils at Dunveria Secondary also experienced callings. According to reports, children were vomiting and some fainted. The school's management said a cleansing would be undertaken at the school.
