DURBAN – A courier van driver was hijacked, robbed and bundled into the back of the van by the assailants.

That is according to the Fidelity Services Group that said on Monday that their SIU team in KwaZulu-Natal were alerted to a report on a first responders group about a hijacking in KwaMashu of a courier vehicle.

“The team quickly tracked the vehicle down where the suspects had already off-loaded the goods,” Fidelity Services Group said.

“The driver of the vehicle was found in the back of the van and he was left there by the suspects after fleeing the scene.”

A case of hijacking and robbery was opened.

“Well done team and great work on recovering the vehicle and getting the driver to safety!”

Police Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed that charges of carjacking and kidnapping were opened at KwaMashu police station for investigation.

“The complainant alleged that on March 14, 2022, at 10:40am, he was with his colleagues delivering parcels in KwaMashu G section when they were accosted by armed suspects. At gunpoint the suspects forced them to jump at the back of the bakkie and drove to KwaMashu Men’s Hostel where they offloaded the goods. They gave them the vehicle keys back and instructed them to drive away.”
